At Consensus, our company culture is driven by the talented individuals who work here. We have created the employee spotlight series to highlight our team members who are working hard to make the Consensus experience a truly outstanding one.

This month we talked with Vice President of Quality Systems and Regulatory Assurance, Nick Tovar. With a passion for providing people with products and services that improve their lives, we uncovered why he loves working in the medical device industry and some of his favorite things about Consensus.

Hometown?

I’m from Clearfield, a suburb of Davis County, Utah.

How long have you been with TracPatch?

I started consulting for TracPatch in June 2018 and was hired on in April 2019.

Briefly describe what a regular day as a Vice President of Quality Systems and Regulatory Assurance looks like?

The essential function of the vice president of quality systems and regulatory assurance is to ensure that our employees are trained and performing properly to produce quality products and/or services and understand regulatory affairs. I provide direction regarding the products and services offered by Consensus, developing and refining the statistics and processes to assess quality and determine effective improvements and maintain regulatory compliance.

I also help create and communicate an overall vision for quality within the company, setting goals and recommending organizational changes to achieve these goals and provide guidance on regulatory affairs. I am responsible for communicating the company’s quality system and regulatory compliance to customers and supply chain and I create an environment conducive to continuous quality improvement and implements systems to nurture quality excellence.

Additionally, I set standards for achieving regulatory assurance on an international scale. I help promote consensus and assure quality and regulatory responsibility throughout the company and I focus quality initiatives on a pro-active rather a reactive structure. I greatly enjoy developing regulatory compliance initiatives through remediation when required and championing such projects.

My favorite thing about my job is working with a wonderful team of professionals that are committed to bringing TracPatch and our other products to patients. It’s rewarding to know that our products are already improving the quality of life for patients across the country.

Whats your favorite thing about TracPatch?

My favorite thing about working on TracPatch is knowing that this product has the potential to be a game-changer when it comes to improving patient outcomes for joint replacement and sports injury recovery.

Whats your favorite thing about working in the medical device industry?

My favorite thing about working in the medical device industry is providing people with products and services that improve their lives or maintain a quality of life consistent with their goals and objectives.

What has been one of your proudest moments working at TracPatch?

My proudest moment at TracPatch was when I reviewed data obtained from various users and a correlation was made to show how this medical device improves patient outcomes. I felt honored to be a part of a new product introduction that will have a definite impact on patients’ lives.

What do you like to do when youre not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy watching and coaching my children’s sporting activities as I regularly coach soccer. Having been a former professional soccer player, it’s wonderful to coach, officiate and participate in a sport that has been a large part of my life.  Soccer really is a “kick in the grass.”

What inspires you?

My family inspires me! Having a family with my wonderful wife of more than 30 years is my greatest accomplishment and I couldn’t be any prouder of them. When I think of the work that we are doing on TracPatch, I realize that this product will benefit my children and grandchildren for years to come.

If you could pick a superpower what would it be?

If I could pick a superpower, I would choose to be able to move like the Flash. Then I could accomplish so much more in the short time of each day.
